As term 2 came to a close, the excitement levels at Garin College increased with the anticipation and arrival of the school’s annual arts festival, Te Wairua o nga Mahi Toi (the Spirit of Creation in the Arts).
In its eighth year, the Mahi Toi gives students two days of performance and viewing a wide range of creative activities.
Every student competes in at least four events (two of which have to be House Choir items). Others include the traditional arts festival staples such as singing, dance, instrumental, drama, speech, scripture and poetry reading – but also various art categories, wearable art from recycled materials, cake decoration in Food Technology, food photography and many more.
The term culminated with a concert featuring some of the best items as well as the second House Choir items.
