Garin College cyclists rode superbly at the South Island secondary schools two day tour held during the national tournament week. Riders completed a 3km time trial, a Criterium where points were gained on multiple sprint laps, a 1km hill time trial and a scratch race.
Our students achieved superb results.
Thomas Ashley competing in the Under 20 grade was first in the Criterium and second overall. Tom Nicholson in the Under 17 won the overall yellow jersey and was the green jersey sprint ace winner as well as winning the Criterium.
Under 15 Joel MacManus won the King of the Mountain polka dot jersey, was first in the hilltop time trial, and second overall.
Maria Schryvers in the Under 17 Girls first in hilltop time trial, led after three stages, but lost in the scratch race ending in fourth position. This was her second ever race!
An amazing tour: big thanks from the team to coach Henry Kersten.
