Garin: the girls’ volleyball school

Over the last three weeks the Year 10 Volleyball girls have given people something to talk about. Playing in the A Grade Junior Volleyball competition the team has beaten Nayland A, Nelson Girls A and Waimea 10A.

The team is capably coached by Year 12 students Lulu Shanaher and Lydia Wadsworth. “They are a dedicated team who have lots of spirit and potential” commented Lulu. “It’s great to see Garin achieving such brilliant results against bigger schools.”

The team consists of Sjaan Hungerford (captain), Amber Roozendaal, Phoebe Harris, Ashley Booth, Talia Merrin, Keeli Ferris and Rosie Hopkins.  The girls have shown a strong commitment to their play, with great work in the backcourt picking up free balls and a consistent standard of serving. The front court are quick on their feet and counter attacking through great blocks.  Expect to see more from the Garin team as they compete in the up-coming regional tournament.
