Last year we were very pleased with our teachers and students for really good results-placing us at the very top of academic achievement in the top-of-the-south. One of the things we were not so happy with was the fact that although the pass-rates were high, we did not have enough students gaining Merit and Excellence passes. You can see from this 2009 table that we remain ahead of the rest of the country in our students who gained National Certificates endorsed with Merit and Excellence in all areas except last year’s year 13 Excellence awards. In 2007 we awarded Colours to 18 year 12 and 13 students, last year it was just 15-and this year we will be awarding Colours-students who gained their entire NCEA with Merit and Excellence grades-to 31 of our 139 year 12 and 13 students! That’s 23% of our students!

This year we are consciously teaching our junior students to think in our HOTT classes-and training our seniors to make effective use of their brainpower in study periods. So we expect to keep improving every year.
Well done to our students who did the work-our teachers who provided the focus and support-and to our families who encouraged, cajoled and demanded that students reach for their potential.
