Top Sporting results from July

Tom Ashley and Tom Nicholson

Term 2 finished with the highlight of the Garin Arts year; Te Wairua o nga Mahi Toi, but already the College’s top sports people were hard at work making July our top sporting month. Tom Nicholson and Tom Ashley missed Mahi Toi because they were in Australia in the New Zealand cycling team – both picking up top 20 international placings.

Our karting team were straight into Garin’s first karting nationals – and Matt Butchart, Taylor Forbes, Georgia Goodman and Andrew Goodman did very well with Matt’s two top six placings being the highlight.

Our junior netball team pushed through to fourth in the South Island tournament in Christchurch during the holidays.

Senior A Netballers after convincing win over visiting English team

Garin Senior A netballers beat Royal Grammar School Worcester 27-15

Our Under 15 rugby team beat top placed Waimea to set themselves up for finals rugby in few weeks.

Jonathan Page took a second, a third and a fourth at South Island swimming.

First five Sam Ellis scored twice in the opening few minutes to set up a good win 21-10

And at the end of the first week of the term we hosted two English schools for our traditional international fixture – recording three netball wins and our first XV also recorded a spirited and hard-fought win.
