Level 1 Maori
Subject: Te Reo Maori Level 1
Level: Year 11
Genuine interest in Maori language and culture. Ideally, students should have studied Maori at Year 9 and 10 with some success. At least a basic understanding of Maori language to Level 4 of the curriculum. The ability to stand and introduce yourself and other members of your family is an absolute necessity.
An integrated Te Reo Maori course, which focuses on the four main components of the language: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. The achievement objectives of this course are to successfully prepare students for Level 1 NCEA Achievement Standards. A marae trip is planned in the first term. An internal Achievement Standard will be completed on the marae trip.
All careers in New Zealand, especially those that involve working with people. Health and education demand a basic understanding of Maori language and culture.
Cost: Koha for the 3 day Marae trip including transport, food and accommodation is usually $190 approx. Cost is dependent on lots of factors such as the price of fuel, marae and the number of students attending.
