Week 5 saw a celebration of all things academic during Geek Week. Our Captains of Learning Joseph & Julia created a fun-filled week, with an activity on every day during break. The photos and puzzles around the school on Monday had students running around trying to get maximum points, and the giant Sudoku puzzles on the quad on Tuesday proved a challenge! The Rubik‟s cube is always a popular event, and Thursday‟s bridge-building challenge was a highlight, despite the rain forcing it indoors. Dress Up Day and the annual staff vs. students quiz are always popular, and it was great to see so many students get into the spirit of the day by dressing up. More than $500 was raised to send to Tereora College library in the Cook Islands, which will be gratefully received to buy new books to support their students. Geek Week also saw Garin welcoming local author Rachael Craw, who spoke to 4 English classes about her work and gave a very practical workshop on creating dynamic dialogue, as well as inspiring all our students at assembly to give their best when opportunities arise. We thank the NZ Book Council for providing Rachael‟s visit under the Author‟s in Schools program.
