On Saturday the 7th of April, a squad of 13 Garin actors represented us at the annual Otago University Sheilah Winn Secondary Shakespeare Festival held this year at the Nelson College hall. Our group entered 7 different extracts in the two categories of 5 minute and 15 minute scenes and the Garin groups performed to a consistently high standard across the day. The Merry Wives of Windsor group of Jamie Morgan, Jade Alborn, Hamish Shelly, and Megan Ritchie depicted their scene as a 1950's domestic farce in Texas, and were awarded Best Overall 5 Minute piece, which means they have qualified to perform at the national festival in Wellington on Queen's Birthday weekend. This 'merry' band also won a Best Comedy award. Julius Caesar, featuring Jed Frethey and Hamish Shelly won the Best History play award and The Merchant of Venice group of Jamie, Hannah Pressman and Sophie Henry won a Best Period Costume award. Quite aside from the awards, Drama teacher Dan Allan was impressed at the positivity, innovation, inclusiveness, and self-drive that saw his students all perform to a standard of which they should be proud. The group that represented Garin were: Patience Davis, Megan Brennan, Ravenli Malcolm (Tuia te Matangi) Kira Evenden, Georgina Fisk, John Noble, Hannah Pressman, Sophie Henry, Megan Ritchie, Jade Alborn, Jed Frethey, Jamie Morgan & Aaliyah Gill
