Wow. We are really proud of the 2009 exam results! Our international students really showed that if you put in the work you can achieve excellent results. One of our international students is amongst the top achieving students for NCEA Level 1. This is an amazing achievement as she is studying in her second language and still manages to achieve as well as our best New Zealand students.

Garin College students achieved above the national average at all levels.

Garin NCEA Level 1 73% National Average 72%

Garin NCEA Level 2 87% National Average 76%

Garin NCEA Level 3 86% National Average 69%

Garin University Entrance 72% National Average 64%

2011 Subject Selection

I am just about to start meeting with all the students to discuss their 2011 subject selection and their long term goals. This is a very valuable time as it gives me the opportunity to make sure they are choosing subjects which will give them the best university choices. I am happy to say that our students are very motivated and some have very high goals set. I look forward to being part of the effort to help them get there.

Homestay Evening

In May we had a dietician and author come to speak to our homestay parents and students about balanced meals and foods to avoid in a kiwi diet. Students and host parents joined in the fun of a sushi making demonstration.

Swine Flu Update

Garin College receives regular updates from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health regarding the status of Swine Flu in New Zealand. All schools have their own pandemic policy which is also regularly updated. We know it is worrying for parents when their children are so far away. Please feel reasured that Garin College has every precaution in place and your children will be closely monitored and cared for. Please check this website for updates if the current situation changes.

International student dance

We also enjoyed a big dance where all the international students from the local high schools came together for a dance. There were around 150 people at the dance and everyone enjoyed the night. The dancing was great and some of our students are very talented dancers!
