Scholarship Applications

Following the wonderfully generous donation to Garin College from Nancy May Black (known as Twinkle to most) the College is privileged to announce the availability of a number of scholarships for the 2025 academic year.

Applications are encouraged from those existing Garin students who are able to demonstrate outstanding potential in academic, sporting, cultural, leadership and faith-based activities.

Due to the increasing cost of living and financial demands placed on families, we want to ensure the scholarship fund provides financial support to the many families needing it to enable their child to access an education at Garin College – this was very much Nancy Black’s heart and intention as the fund’s benefactor. In supporting her wishes, the scholarship will have a focus on supporting students in financial need to attend Garin.

Please note. Scholarship funds are to enable a student to attend Garin College and to access curriculum related aspects; monies awarded must be allocated to expenses such as: assistance with transport (bus fees), uniform, Attendance Dues (ADW) fee, school donations, camp donations.

Criteria

Applications are invited from new students to Garin College who meet the normal entrance requirements and existing students currently demonstrating outstanding performance in a relevant discipline.

  • Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
  • Applications must be accompanied by copies of recent school reports, results and certificates. A copy of the Students NZ Birth Certificate or current passport showing NZ permanent residency is required.
  • Scholarship holders will be expected to participate in the wider life of Garin College including sports, arts and service and to represent Garin at relevant events and competitions.
  • Scholarships are reviewed by the college Principal mid-year and at the end of each year with the cancellation of a scholarship possible if the agreed goals for the year have not been met.
