The death of George Floyd and the immense global action of solidarity against racism, was massive and foremost in the mind and emotion of Garin’s student leaders. Their voices was heartfelt and intense, they recalled and recognised the indignity of racism and the oppression lived by millions every day because of racism. Social action is called for they said, we cannot let this go unrecognised, “we are all made one in God’s image, so if even one of us is hurt or suffering then we all hurt and suffer”. To the theme of “we hear you, we support you, we are you” our service leaders called the school to assemble in the quad today to share one minute silence at 1:25pm, to commemorate and pray for George Floyd, his whānau and all who suffer the impact of racism across the world. One minute silence at 1:25pm, was performed on Friday 12th June to commemorate and pray for George Floyd, his whānau and all who suffer the impact of racism across the world.
