Hui a Whānau 2023

Mar 1, 2023

Wharenui Te Rongoā o Aotearoa

GARIN HUI A WHĀNAU – Online Hui

Thursday 9th March; 5.30 – 6.00pm

Whakataka te hau ki te uru

Whakataka te hau ki te tonga

Kia mākinakina ki uta

Kia mātaratara ki tai

E hī ake ana te atakura

He tio, he huka, he hau hū

Tīhei mauri ora!

Cease the winds from the west

Cease the winds from the south

Let the breeze blow over the land

Let the breeze blow over the ocean

Let the red-tipped dawn come with a sharpened air.

A touch of frost, a promise of a glorious day.

Nāu te rourou nāku te rourou, ka ora ia te iwi – with your basket and mine, the people will be fed

E koro ma, e kui ma, e mātua ma me ngā tamariki, ngā mana, me ngā reo, me ngā karanga maha, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa. Nei te mihi maioha ki te whānau o Garin.

Welcome to our first pānui of the year. A special welcome to our whānua who have tamariki starting at Garin College this year. I hope this pānui finds you and your wider whānau well in this new year.

We welcome our Ngā Amorangi (Māori Leaders) for the year, Bella Goomes rāua ko Cherry Moore. These young rangatira have made a great start to the year assisting with the Powhiri for all new staff and students. In their role they will tautoko the mana and mauri of the Māori ākonga at the kura.

The kura would like to pānui our intention to hold a Hui-a-whānau next week onsite at Garin College. Please let us know if you are able to attend so that we can provide kai for you.

The Hui-a-Whānau kaupapa is to provide a setting for Māori whānau to;

  • hui kanohi ki te kanohi (face to face)
  • to provide a wāhi haumaru (safe space) wānanga (raise and discuss) issues that are relevant to us, as Māori

The hui is next Thursday, 9th March at 5.30pm. The length of the hui will be determined by whānau and normally runs for half an hour. We will meet in the Māori Whānau classroom (C1). This is the first room on the left past the entrance to the library as you come in from the main car park. I will start with karakia at 5.30pm.

Please forward any items that you would like to be added to the agenda.

This kaupapa will be supported by the Māori Dean (Tom Speers)

Ngā mihi maioha, nā Tom Speers
