Marcell Kepess and Sophie Pahl represented Garin College at the Makos Zonal Secondary Schools Open Water champs in Akaroa on Saturday.
Both competed in the 5km swim from Wainui across the harbour to Akaroa in very trying conditions with strong wind and rough seas in the middle section.
Marcell: 1st M14-15, 1st male overall in Secondary Schools champs; 1st M14-15 in Open event (open to anyone, not just school students).
Sophie: 1st F16-19, 1st female overall; 2nd F16-19 in Open event.
