T2 Week 4 – 27 May 2022

May 27, 2022

Tēnā koutou katoua ngā whānau,

Thank you to our librarian Mrs Ditzel, Academic Leaders Lucien Panting and Amy Jukes, our Academic Leaders, our library assistants and House Captains for their leadership and promotion of the Reading Challenge and Geek Week. This week has been fun filled with challenges and competition. The end of the week culminated with our book character dress up day with both learners and staff sporting some absolutely amazing look-alike characters. Learner House chants rang out across the college this afternoon, Learners were dressed in house colours and competed in the Fun Run or enjoyed a relaxed walk in the sun alongside their friends. The colours of Red, Green, Blue and Yellow combined with the beautiful sunny afternoon appeared just like a rainbow as we closed off another wonderful week at Garin. Thank you to Mr Speers, Academic Leaders and House leaders for making this Book Character dress up day and Fun Run as special as it was. Well done to all for your positive and energetic participation.

Next week we celebrate the launch of Te Wairua o nga Mahi Toi 2022, in our Mass of Creativity on Thursday, 2 June. In the Mass we will celebrate the gifts of creativity, dance, music and expression that our learners have nurtured in their lives. Our prayer is one of thanksgiving to God for the gifts and talents we share. We look forward to the build up and celebration of Mahi Toi later in the term where our learners’ gifts and talents will shine bright.

“Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:15-16

The Garin College Board meeting for May is held in our College Library next Tuesday at 5.30pm. The Triannual Board Elections are being held in September this year, I encourage parents to consider nomination and standing for election to the Garin Board. There are 5 Parent representative positions on the Board. Should you like to discuss or learn more about school board elections, visit www.schoolboardelections.org.nz or if you wish to learn more about the Garin College Board you may contact the school office or the Board Presiding Member Mr Chris Ward.

We are working hard to slow the spread of the Covid virus at school; hygiene, wearing face masks on school transport and indoor settings are essential. Your support and encouragement of your student in maintaining these health and safety measures is appreciated, thank you.

Mā te Atua koe e tiaki – May God be with you

Ngā manaakitanga,

John Maguire
