A team of 16 Garin College athletes competed at the Tasman Secondary Schools Athletics Championships held at Saxton Athletics Field on Tuesday, 16 March. The students participated in a range of track and field events and achieved some outstanding results. Eight students achieved a top four finish including:
– Flynn Gilsenan, 1st U14 boys discus throw
– Ivan Prendiville, 2nd 16+ boys 100m
– Flynn Mackie, 2nd U14 boys 400m
– Amy Oliver, 2nd U15 girls 200m
– Misha Worboys, 1st 16+ boys high jump.
Some of our students have qualified for South Island Secondary Schools Athletics Championships to
be held in Christchurch in April:
Misha’s jump of 1.78m broke a Garin College record set in 2007 by 4cm and set a new benchmark for
senior boys high jump for the college.
