TSS Athletics Championship

On 17 March, 18 Garin College students competed at the TSS Athletics Championships, held at Saxton Athletics Field. With lockdown being enforced just a few days later, this was the last regional event on the Tasman Secondary Schools Events Calendar to take place in Term One. It was an awesome day for Garin College, with our large contingent of athletes gaining a number of podium finishes, many of whom also set new records for the school.

Congratulations to the following athletes who achieved these outstanding results: – Heidi Muirhead, 2nd U14 girls 100m dash (Garin College record) – Julia Kersten, 1st U15 girls Long Jump (Garin College record), 1st U15 girls 400m, 2nd U15 girls 800m – Marie Sampson, 2nd U19 girls Discus Throw (Garin College record) – Nina Hunter, 3rd U15 girls 3000m (Garin College record) – Billy Powick, 3rd U15 boys Long Jump (Garin College record) – Misha Worboys, 1st U16 boys High Jump – Jonte Stevens, 3rd U16 boys Shot Put – Logan McCrae, 2nd U19 boys 400m (Garin College record) – Eamon Shellock, 2nd U19 boys 200m – Julia Kersten, Lillian Kersten, Heidi Muirhead and Amber Diack, 2nd U15 girls 4 x 100m relay Special thanks to Ms O’Brien for her commitment to athletics in the school, and to Mrs Turner who, along with Ms O’Brien provided invaluable sideline help and support on the day.
