Auckland Writers Festival

May 26, 2019

Ten students and two teachers were lucky enough to attend 2019‘s Writer‘s Festival in Auckland. This was an amazing opportunity to meet international authors from around the world, and learn handy techniques to further their writing. Half the group caught a flight in the evening, but due to some unforeseen setbacks, the second half flew to Auckland in the early morning. The two days were filled with workshops and talks, readings and people, and it was a great chance to meet new friends and experience new things with their literature. Some of the authors the group went to see were Renee Watson, Val Emmich, Marcus Zusak (pictured), and Eileen Merriman. Students from Garin even purchased their own copies of books that were displayed and everyone went home with a notebook, and poem book, a poster, and a head full of new ideas. The students even took the chance to push their comfort zones – some even went up the sky tower! Others went shopping, and even the art gallery was visited. The trip was overall an awesome way to connect and learn from others and encounter different circumstances. By Josephine Hills
