NZ Secondary Schools Swimming Champs

Aug 28, 2023

Congratulations to Swimming Team members: Joel Verran, Mya Ketel, Amy Oliver, Kurt Berry, Lono Kalani, Saffron Berriman who competed at the Wellington Aquatic Centre 20-23 July at the NZ Secondary Schools Swimming Champs.

The days were long, breakfast at 630am, then to the pool for stretching and warm up, racing starting around 8.40am, sessions were normally finished by 12-1230, then back to the hotel for lunch and a sleep and back at the pool at 3pm for afternoon stretch and warm up.  Afternoon racing started around 5-6pm, and we were normally heading back to the hotel between 830-9pm for dinner.

There were a lot of swims and the top 10 and PB’s are recorded below, sadly we did not medal, it appeared we were going to be the team of 4ths!! But the athletes kept coming back and turning it up, even with PB’s.

Our small school was incredibly successful in this meet.  we were continually getting asked WHERE is Garin College, so we were definitely noticed on the big stage.

A huge thank you to Club Garin for their part in paying for our entry fees to attend this meet.

Garin team overall result 42nd out of 128 teams. Results:
